School Choice
Hillsborough County offers School Choice, which is a program that allows families to apply to attend a school that is different from their assigned neighborhood school. The program is designed to give families more flexibility and choice when it comes to their child’s education. Here’s an overview of the School Choice program and the process to apply:
What is School Choice? School Choice is a program that allows families to choose a school that is different from their assigned neighborhood school. Families can apply to attend a school that offers programs and services that better meet their child’s needs or interests. The program offers a range of options, including magnet schools, career academies, and charter schools.
How to Apply: The School Choice application period typically opens in January or February each year, with applications accepted online or through a paper application. Families can apply for up to three schools, and will need to provide documentation to support their application, such as proof of residency, proof of grade level, and any required program or audition materials.
After the application period closes, a lottery is held to determine which students will be offered a seat at the schools they applied for. Families will be notified of the results of the lottery and will need to accept or decline the offer by a specified deadline.
It’s important to note that while School Choice offers families more options for their child’s education, there are limits to the program. Space is limited at many of the schools, and not all schools are available for School Choice. Additionally, families are responsible for providing transportation to the School Choice school if it is outside of their assigned school zone.

The very best Pina Colada ever! It’s a wonderful concoction topped with bits of fresh coconut and tiny bits of pineapple – and get the extra rum floater on top, it’s so worth it!
Sunset Grill
Located in Ruskin, just a short drive from Apollo Beach, the Sunset Grill offers a menu of classic American dishes with a Caribbean flair. The outdoor seating area offers a romantic setting for a sunset dinner. You will have a front row seat for one of our awe-inspiring sunsets while you dine and sip at this beautiful waterfront location. There’s plenty of outside seating for dinner or two large bars if you want to enjoy some camaraderie with the locals!
Apollo Beach Nature Preserve:
This preserve is a 90-acre nature reserve located on Tampa Bay, with hiking trails, a fishing pier, and a boardwalk for bird watching and wildlife viewing. As the day draws to a close, make your way to the shoreline and witness the splendor of an Apollo Beach sunset. The vivid colors painting the sky create a magical ambiance, casting a golden glow over the preserve’s tranquil landscape. The rhythmic sound of lapping waves and the gentle breeze create a sense of serenity that will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Manatee Viewing Center:
The Manatee Viewing Center is a free attraction where you can see manatees up close in their natural habitat. There are also educational exhibits and a gift shop.
E.G. Simmons Park:
E.G. Simmons Park is a 469-acre park located on Tampa Bay, with fishing piers, boat ramps, picnic areas, and a beach.
Step back in time and immerse yourself in the grandeur of Meadow Brook Hall, a historic mansion and cultural landmark in Rochester Hills. This Tudor-revival style estate was once the residence of the Dodge family and is now a National Historic Landmark open for public tours.
